FENTY BEAUTY RECALL CULTURALLY INSENSITIVE PRODUCT


THE “GEISHA CHIC” HIGHLIGHTER HAS BEEN REMOVED


Rihanna’s make-up brand "Fenty Beauty", has recalled one of their new Killawatt Highlighters: "Geisha Chic". The move comes after backlash the name received online after its initial reveal on Saturday on the @fentybeauty instagram account.


The product, which was set to launch with two other Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters Mo’Hunny/Afternoon Snack and #PENNY4UTHOTS, faced criticism from beauty fans and followers who thought the name fetishised an element of Japanese culture.



Due to online followers expressing discomfort with the name, the Fenty conglomerate has since taken responsibility for the possible PR nightmare and have gotten rid of all traces of previous marketing posts for the shade. Responding to an Instagramcomment, the brand said “we hear you, we have pulled the product until it can be renamed. We wanted to personally apologize. Thank you so much for educating us.”


The rest of the range, including the new Sun Stalkr Bronzer, is set to launch at fentybeauty.com, Sephora and Harvey Nichols on 5th April.
